The Spring Equinox
It is the Spring Equinox,
A day like odd socks—
One dark, one light,
One for day, one for night.
Which one is stronger?
Is day or night longer?
Just like the clocks,
It keeps the same ticks as tocks.
Equality rocks,
On a Spring Equinox.

About The Spring Equinox
The Spring Equinox is one of my favourite days of the year—a day of perfect balance with all the promise of long, summer days ahead.
But I did not find its amazingness easy to explain to my soon-to-be three‑year‑old or my five‑year‑old.
After muddling through many confusing and truly terrible metaphors over breakfast, one of my explanations finally landed as we were getting dressed for school—with, of all things, socks!
So much so, I decided to pen this little poem.
