The rhythm of a rhyme

I love poems that rhyme

The way the words keep time

Creating a rhythm and beat

I can follow with the tap of my feet

They’re way more fun to say

Less like work and more like play

And easier to figure out too

The last phrase giving the next clue

With rhymes I rarely go wrong

Remembering the words like a song

And even if they’re trickier to write

It’s worth it for my favourite poem type

About this poem

This poem was prompted by the weekly word of the week from The Toy Press: Rhythm.

As you may have already figured out, I love to write rhymes. They are fun to create and read with my children, and the sound patterns are a really lovely way to help young kids build their language, listening and early reading skills.

Reading rhymes and creating funny ones together, are some of my favourite things to do with my own children.
